The following is a sampling of photographs taken as the Oklahoma City Stars mens and women’s basketball teams hosted St. Gregory’s on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The women started the afternoon with a 69-48 victory, advanced their record to 5-2 on the year and were led by freshman Lauren Gober who ended the day with 16 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. The men followed the women to an almost-identical outcome, winning 67-48 and a 3-2 overall record early in the season. Senior Chris Brown led all scorers with 29 points in the contest.
Both Stars’ coaches had some tough love for their respective squads at the end of the day, with men’s coach Kevin Morrissey saying “I thought our effort at times was lacking, but in the end we did what we needed to do to get a win.”
Women’s coach Rob Edmisson was even more critical of the Lady Stars’ perfomance on the court. “I have a pretty good vision of what it takes to get from where we are at playing wise to where we need to be in March when we go to Jackson, Tenn. Our team, although talented, is underachieving. There is nothing more frustrating than to look at talented kids underachieve. We have got to find a way as a staff to get our kids to play up to their potential, and we’re not doing that. I don’t coach the scoreboard, I coach how we play every possession offensively and defensively, and we have just got to get better.”
Both teams take on Mid-America Christian this Saturday, December 12th.
