OKLAHOMA CITY –Oklahoma City University softball players Nathalie Timmermans and Brittany Tibbs picked up accolades as members of the ESPN academic all-district VI team. Joining the pair of softball players was OCU catcher Chad Carman, a first-team selection to the baseball academic all-American squad, as announced by CoSIDA on Friday.

Timmermans, a junior from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, maintains a 3.90 grade-point average in biomedical science to earn a first-team selection.

On the diamond, Timmermans plays third base for OCU. She leads the team with a .423 batting average and 60 RBIs. Timmermans has a .854 slugging percentage and has pounded 16 home runs, good for eighth in the NAIA this year.

Tibbs, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., took second-team honors with a 3.95 grade-point average in kinesiology. Tibbs joined the OCU softball team this season after her all-American campaign as goalkeeper for the Stars soccer team.

Tibbs has become an integral part of the OCU defense as at first base in her first season on the diamond for OCU. She has a .982 fielding percentage, recording 100 putouts in 34 games played this season. She was tapped as a CoSIDA academic all-American on the pitch for OCU.

Carman, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., maintains a cumulative 3.97 grade-point average in his studies in information technology. This marks Carman’s first selection to the academic-all district team.

Carman, a 2010 all-American catcher for the Stars, is batting .321 with 54 hits this season. He has brought across 36 runs while posting a second-best 15 doubles on the year. Carman sports a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage from his position behind the plate.

Academic all-district selections were chosen based on a minimum 3.30 GPA and sophomore status in athletic eligibility. The nominees are then voted on by district sports information directors. First-team all-district honorees have the distinction of being nominated for all-American honors, to be voted upon in the upcoming weeks.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed the regular season by taking a doubleheader from Rogers State 10-0, 9-1 in a battle of top-25 programs Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.

OCU, ranked second in NAIA baseball, hit the 40-win mark for the 16th consecutive season and improved to 41-9, 26-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference after the pair of victories. Eighteenth-ranked Rogers State fell to 42-12, 20-10. The Stars head into postseason play with the top seed in the SAC Tournament taking place May 4-7 in Plainview, Texas.

The first game of the day saw the Stars swarm the Hillcats with a six-run fifth inning to get the 10-0 victory in the run-rule game. Miguel Beltran started the fifth with a solo home run over the right-field fence. Beltran, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., notched his team-leading 12th out-of-the-park blast of the season. Chad Carman’s single up the middle brought in Matt Presley and forced a pitching change for the Hillcats.

Scott Dalrymple, Brian Fisher and Ruben Sosa had three consecutive RBI singles to put the score at 9-0. A first-pitch single to left by Julien Pollard allowed Sosa to come in from third and finish off the game at 10-0.

OCU added two runs in the fourth after Sosa reached base on a bunt and an errant fielding play at first allowed Carman to cross the plate. Kirk Walker belted a sacrifice fly to right that allowed Fisher to scamper in for the 4-0 lead.

The second inning produced a movie-worthy memory when Pollard took out a light over the Rogers State dugout and sent the bulb raining on the field. On the next pitch, Pollard slammed a two-run homer to right-center to score OCU’s first runs of the day.

Rich Hawkins pitched his third shutout in a row with a three-hit complete-game effort. Hawkins, a junior from Edmond, Okla., leads the Stars with a 1.39 earned run average and a 9-3 record.

The nightcap started with three scoreless innings of action before OCU put up three runs in the fourth. Presley pounded a double that brought in two runs and Austin Messerli punched a single through the left side of the field to bring in Presley.

OCU’s fifth inning was highlighted by a 3-run homer off the bat of Presley. Doubles by Dalrymple and Fisher resulted in two more runs for the Stars to put the lead at 9-0. Rogers State scored their only run of the day in the top of the seventh on the last play of the game.

Brandt Barnes reached first on a fielder’s choice. A throw home by Kirk Walker wasn’t in time to prevent Colton Campbell’s run. Dalrymple zinged the ball back to second baseman Fisher to pick off Keith Poverud to end the inning and the game.

OCU’s Terrance Jackson and Allen Townsend combined for the one hitter. Jackson, a senior from Greenville, Ala., picked up seven strike outs and walked seven en route to the win. Townsend came in to get the final out of the game for the Stars.

The Stars outhit the Hillcats 25-4 in the pair of games. Heavy hitters for the Stars included a 4-for-5 day for Walker. Dalrymple was 3-for-4 from the plate and Pollard finished the day 3-for-6 with four RBIs. After not managing a hit in the opening game, Presley rebounded with a 2-for-4 performance and drove in five runs in the second.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University’s second-ranked baseball team trounced Bacone 19-1 Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.

The Stars (39-8) pounded 20 hits to bring across their 19 runs in the game. OCU’s Miguel Beltran, Chad Carman and Kirk Walker all had perfect nights at the plate.

Beltran, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., was 3-for-3, drove in five runs and belted his team-leading 11th home run of the season for the Stars. Carman, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., finished the night 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., contributed a 3-for-3 effort with two RBIs in the run-ruled game.

Mike Richard picked up the win to move to 3-0 on the season. Richard, a left-handed senior from Walla Walla, Wash., struck out four and gave up four hits and the sole run for Bacone. A trio from the OCU bullpen closed out the night striking out five of the ten batters they faced.

Dearth Parker and Matt Presley saw time on the mound for the first time this season, a departure from their usual positions on the field. Parker, a senior from Roff, Okla., gave up one hit and struck out three as he pitched the seventh and final inning for the Stars.

OCU started the night with a four-run first as they streaked through the order. Ruben Sosa, a junior from Lawrence, Mass., took two bags to net his 38th steal of the season. This marks puts Sosa at third in the NAIA for total stolen bases. The Stars followed with two more in the second, including Beltran’s two-run dinger.

OCU added five in the third to put the contest out of hand. Bacone put up their only run of the night in the top of the fourth when Casey Gillespie poked a double to left center to bring in pinch-runner Garland Norton. The bottom of the fourth inning saw eight runs cross the plate for the home team as 13 OCU batters made it to the plate.

OCU travels to 18th-ranked Rogers State for a 6 p.m. showdown on Thursday at the Hillcat Complex in Claremore, Okla.

Hawkins threw 144 pitches en route to the complete-game shutout. He gave up eight hits and struck out eight to pick up his eighth win on the season. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA baseball, move to 37-8, 23-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Offensively, OCU powered to the win with a four-run second inning. The first run of the night came when Oklahoma Christian pitcher Conner Williams hit Chad Carman when the bases were loaded. With the bases still jacked, Ruben Sosa hit an RBI single to right field to score Scott Dalrymple.

Kirk Walker followed it up by peppering a single to left to bring in Terrance Jackson. Julien Pollard hit a sacrifice fly out to left to bring around courtesy runner Brian Fisher after the throw to the plate could not beat the speed on the base paths.

OCU added another in the fifth when Miguel Beltran singled to left center to score Walker. The Stars left the bases loaded after Oklahoma Christian’s Tyler Gipson snagged a foul ball for the third out to end the inning.

The Stars got out of a bases loaded jam of their own in the top of the eighth. OCU’s second out came after a bullet relay thrown by right fielder Matt Presley allowed Carman to tag Taylor Parcus out at the plate. With the bases still loaded, OCU’s Dearth Parker made a play at third to end the inning.

OCU put their sixth and final run on the board in the bottom of the eighth. Sosa started the inning with a single up the middle and proceeded to steal both second and third. Beltran pounded a sacrifice fly to right and brought in Sosa for the final run of the evening.

Sosa and Walker both went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run in the contest for the Stars.

OCU finishes off the three-game series with a rubber match at Oklahoma Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dobson Field.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University’s red-hot bats powered the Stars to an 18-1 victory over Northwood (Texas) in a battle of top-20 squads Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.

OCU, ranked third in the NAIA, slammed 20 hits and peppered 18 runs in the seven-inning run-rule game over the 16th-ranked Knights. The Stars belted eight extra-base hits, including home runs from Julien Pollard and Terrance Jackson.

Defensively, Stars hurlers Clint Maune and Zac Tidholm combined for the one-hitter. Maune, a senior lefty from Yukon, Okla., used 72 pitches against 19 batters to get four strike outs and give up just one hit en route to the win. The lone hit for Northwood came in the top of the sixth when Kal Saldana poked a single into left center to end the no-hit bid.

OCU broke open the game in the third when the Stars batted around the order to pick up seven runs. Northwood’s Brendan Fleming hit consecutive batters to walk in a run and followed it up with a walk to score OCU’s second of the inning and force a pitching change. A Jackson sacrifice fly brought in Scott Dalrymple and brought OCU’s Chad Carman to the plate. Carman, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., followed it up with a two-RBI double to make the score 7-0. After leading off the third, Kirk Walker singled to left to bring in the final two runs of the inning.

The Stars put up three in the fourth after Jackson brought in Mark Purser and Dearth Parker. Carman extended the lead to 10-0 with his second double of the contest to bring in Jackson. OCU added six more in the fifth after Purser banged out a single to advance Pollard in for the score. Jackson pounded a three-run homer over the left field wall to clear the bases for the Stars. OCU’s Walker belted a two-out double to right to bring in Ruben Sosa and Brian Fisher and finish off the offensive outburst for the Stars.

Pollard, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., slammed his two-run dinger in the first inning to get the Stars on the board first. OCU finished the night with all nine offensive starters notching at least one hit in the game. Walker was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and one run scored. Carman finished with a 3-for-4 outing. Purser and Jackson both ended up 2-for-3 from the plate and Jackson batted in a game-high six runs.

The Stars travel to Oklahoma Christian for a 7 p.m. game Thursday at Max and Ramona Dobson Field in Oklahoma City.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University had hot sticks and smoking pitching to pick up an 8-0 decision over St. Gregory’s on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.

The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, continued their trek through conference play unscathed after saddling St. Gregory’s with the loss. OCU improved to 25-3, 14-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

OCU first baseman Austin Messerli, a senior from Norman, Okla., had two home run balls clear the fences and the bases to anchor the Stars offense. In addition to the home runs, Messerli was 3-for-4 with two RBIs on the night. Kirk Walker pounded a three RBI homer in the sixth to provide extra insurance for the Stars. Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., ended the game 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season for OCU.

The first three innings of action were quiet for both teams, with OCU getting five on the base paths, but not finding a way to bring anyone in for the score. The Stars started the fourth inning with Messerli’s first bomb of the night over the left-field wall. OCU continued the offensive momentum when Terrence Jackson crossed the plate after an error by the Cavaliers shortstop Tyler Bento.

The Stars power inning came in the sixth when Jackson popped an RBI single to bring in Dearth Parker, a senior from Roff, Okla. Ruben Sosa followed suit and landed on first after a shot to left field on a full count. After a sacrifice bunt by Mark Purser advanced the runners, Walker pounded the three-run shot to set the score at 6-0.

Messerli led off the seventh in resounding fashion when he blasted his second solo home run to widen the scoring gap even further. Parker reached base with a double down the left-field line after the Messerli dinger. After advancing to third, Parker found his way into home when a passed ball gave him time to scamper in for the score.

OCU’s pitching battery kept the Cavaliers from scoring in the game. Corey Theriot, a right-handed senior from Iowa, La., tossed eight innings, gave up eight hits and struck out four batters in his 92-pitch outing. Steve Styck entered in the final inning of action retire three Cavaliers batters on 11 pitches. Styck, a righty from Kankakee, Ill., struck out one and didn’t allow a base runner in his inning of action.

The Stars travel to Shawnee, Okla., to complete the regular-season series with St. Gregory’s with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team continued its winning streak to 15 games with a 17-7 trampling of Northwestern on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.

The seventh-ranked Stars moved to 17-2 and pushed their conference record to 8-0 with the high-powered performance. Northwestern fell to 12-7, 2-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

OCU fell behind quickly in the contest, with the Rangers putting up four runs in their first three innings. The Stars answered with six runs in the bottom of the third to take the 6-4 lead. OCU scored multiple runs in the next five innings to accumulate 17 in the run-rule shortened game.

The Stars’ offense was highlighted by Scott Dalrymple, who was perfect from the plate. Dalrymple, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., was 4-for-4 with four runs and one RBI.

OCU batted around the order in the third, and scored all six runs in a two-out rally. The offensive outburst was highlighted by a clutch hit on a full count to Mark Purser. Purser nailed a bases-loaded double to center field that cleared the base paths and gave the Stars the 5-4 lead.

A double by Dalrymple in the fourth allowed Julien Pollard to cross home plate to give the Stars a two-run cushion. Miguel Beltran, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., then blasted his third home run of the season. Beltran’s homer brought in Dalrymple and put the score at 9-4 in favor of OCU.

The Stars added a pair in the bottom of the fifth before Northwestern added a run in the sixth after Clint Dodds scored on a wild pitch. OCU answered with three more runs in the sixth to set the score at 14-5.

OCU pushed its lead to 10 runs and ended the game early after a Brian Fisher single through the left side of the field brought in pinch runner Randy Vann to halt the game at 17-7.

Eight OCU players safely reached base with a hit in the game. Lead-off hitter Ruben Sosa stole two bases to bring his total to 12 on the season. Sosa, a junior from Lawrence, Mass., was 2-for-5, brought in one run and scored one run for the Stars. Beltran finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Pollard, Purser and Matt Presley all ended the night 2-for-4. Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., brought in five runs for OCU.

Chad Carman, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., blasted a two-out grand slam in the first inning to give OCU the early advantage and put the Crimson Storm on their heels. The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, moved to 2-2 on the season, 1-0 in the SAC.

In the top of the seventh, Ruben Sosa belted a single up the middle resulting in two runs following a pitching change. Two sacrifice fly balls by Brian Fisher and Kirk Walker brought in Julien Pollard and Sosa to cap the game scoring at 15-4.

Southern Nazarene looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh to stave off the run rule, to no avail. The Crimson Storm advanced two runners into scoring position before Austin Samulowitz grounded into the final out of the game and stranded two runners.

Southern Nazarene punched in three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the game 11-4, but could not muster enough offense to keep up with the hot bats of the Stars.

OCU’s Mark Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., opened the third inning with a solo homerun. Fisher got his first of two RBI’s with a sacrifice fly to score Dearth Parker. After the third inning, the Stars owned an 11-1 advantage over Southern Nazarene. OCU knocked out the Crimson Storm starter and eventual game loser Jake Mitcheltree after his three innings of work.

Following the first inning grand slam by Carman, the Stars added five more runs in the second. Doubles by Jackson and Walker brought in three runs. Jackson advanced to home on a throwing error and a right-field single by Beltran scored the fifth run of the inning.

Sosa, a junior from Lawrence, Mass., went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, three runs and a stolen base for OCU. The Stars had 11 hits in the offensive frenzy. Corey Theriot, a senior from Iowa, La., picked up the win. Theriot pitched five innings for the Stars, allowing six hits and four runs and striking out four batters.

OCU hosts its first game of the season as the Stars welcome MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) to Jim Wade Stadium Friday at 2 p.m.
